IEM6 Will feature a $635,000 prize pool

The new season of IEM will start soon with a different selection of games with an increased prize pool from last season.

It was announced yesterday that the sixth edition of the Intel Extreme Masters will be holding a $635,000 prize pool, a HUGE 50% increase from IEM V, which had five seperate tournaments with the top caliber of players playing in Hannover, Geramny for the World Championship.

A lot of discussion has began over the dropping of Quake Live, which many call the most balanced and skillful hardcore FPS with LoL (League of Legends) in it’s place which of course from a business perspective was most likely the best move as LoL had a recorded 200k viewership at one point during Dreamhack Summer 2011. However, for many, including myself, It’s a sad day for esports when we switch games such as Quake Live for that fit to a casual gamer. That being said, I can’t wait for the Starcraft 2 tournament!

No information has been released about how the prize distribution will be, however, It should be coming shortly according ESL. When the information is released we’ll let you know.
